PARTICK Thistle suffered another setback in their promotion hopes following back-to-back defeats to Queen of the South and Ayr United — but remain optimistic they can break out of the mid-table position they seem to be trapped in.
Goalkeeper Jonny Tuffey believes there are interesting times ahead, with the top five teams all jostling for points going into the final stages of the First Division campaign.
The Northern Ireland internationalist said: "It is going to be a fascin
ating run into the end of the season. I can see it going all the way and getting tight at the top.
"What we need to do is make sure we capitalise on the chances we create."
However, following Saturday's defeat to QoS and their 1-0 defeat to Ayr on Wednesday, Tuffey admitted: "I can't dress it up as anything other than a disappointing. It was a game where we missed a number of opportunities and were punished halfway through the second half when they scored."
Despite dominating for most of the match, the Firhill side's couldn't capitalise on the chances they created.
Tuffey added: "Against teams like Queen of the South and Ross County — sides that are up there and fancy themselves — you just can't squander chances. If you do, you will get punished."
Thistle will try to put this setback behind them and concentrate on their remaining fixtures.
The team have a free weekend as a number of Scottish Cup games take place.
The Jags' next league game is a week on Saturday, when they play Morton away.
