SCOTLAND'S number one amateur golfer Kylie Walker clinched victory in the prestigious St Rule Trophy over the Old Course at St Andrews
Kylie (21) plays off +2 handicap at Buchanan Castle Golf Club where she has been a member for the past 10 years.

The talented youngster was up against four other golfers in the scratch tournament and scored 75 and 73 in the two round marathon one day event on the par 76 course. The win was even more impressive because of the 25mph gusting winds.

The top ranking lady golfer said: "This is the biggest event I have won to date and it was a long 12 hour day out on the course in weather that tested my skills."

The Drymen golfer said that even at amateur level golfers needed to be very fit, adding: "It was a tough day. The tournament is a European ranking event which will go towards the Order of Merit and attracted players from throughout Europe."

French players were second, third, fourth and joint fifth.
This latest win builds on what has been a very successful return to form for the golfer after coming back from a recent illness. At the beginning of April she won the Scottish Universities Championship before travelling to Dubai and winning the BMW Dubai Ladies' Open.

Kylie, who also won the Dunbartonshire & Argyll County title a couple of days after coming back from the Dubai Open, said: "It all seems to be coming together for me now. I'm glad all the practice is paying off and I just seem to be really enjoying it now. My ultimate goal is to turn professional, but I know it's going to be a lot of hard work."

The former Glasgow Academy student cites her hero as Tiger Woods because he is "just by far the best."

She also has a great deal of admiration for international golfer Janice Moodie who started her golfing career at Windyhill Golf Club, Milngavie.

Bob Collinson, her coach for the past year, said: "I think she is for ladies golf the best talent I have ever seen since Janice Moodie. She is very strong and works very hard keeping herself in top fitness. This is probably why she is so good, both mentally as well as physically.

"Her dedication to the sport is second to none. I can't see anything stopping her going all the way to the top. "
