Another £7million of council cuts on the way in East Dunbartonshire

It’s been revealed that cash-strapped East Dunbartonshire Council is facing fresh cutbacks of around £7million over the next two years.
The Scottish Government has offered a financial deal to the council for 2013/14 – but it comes with strings attached.

Hide AdIf the authority does not accept all the conditions of the offer, it faces hefty financial penalties.
The good news is it means another council tax freeze, but the bad news is another round of cuts in local communities.
That means cutbacks – potentially hitting jobs, services and facilities across the district.
Council leader Rhondda Geekie revealed: “We will be forced to make over £3million worth of savings this year and £4million next year.

Hide Ad“This will once again impact on services, but this is unavoidable unless our cut of the public services grant is increased. The decision on that lies with the SNP Scottish Parliament.
“The future budget predictions show that over the next five years we will have to continue making unpopular cuts.
“Our plans for the future, including our primary school estate, are trying to protect our priority services.”
