PLANNED strike action by cleansing workers has been suspended with immediate effect.
The GMB and UNISON have notified East Dunbartonshire Council that the strike proposed to commence at midnight on Wednesday and run for a week has been suspended.
Council chief executive Sue Bruce said: "There has been extremely positive dialogue b
etween both trades unions and management and it is encouraging that the action has been suspended. We are now entering into a one month period of intensive discussion to seek a resolution jointly.
"Throughout the action, the council worked hard to minimise inconvenience to residents but of course there was disruption and we apologise to people who were affected."
As a result of the action being suspended, the Mavis Valley waste transfer station and recycling centre will be operating as normal with no planned closures.
Refuse bins and kerbside recycling collections are anticipated to shortly be up to date and collections back on normal schedule. Green bin collections, which have been significantly disrupted, will now resume on normal collection days.
There is a backlog on the collection of special uplifts and residents are asked to be patient as there is huge demand for the service.
Teams will be working hard to clear the build-up of litter as street cleansing services were affected by the industrial action.
Information on collection dates can be checked on the council's website at www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk or by contacting the waste and recycling advice line on 0845 045 0157.
