Published Date: 04 June 2008
GLORIOUS sunshine and a fantastic line-up of events attracted thousands of visitors to the Drymen Show on Saturday.
The show organisers hoped that it would be bigger and better than ever to celebrate its 180th birthday — and they weren't disappointed. There was a great display of agricultural animals from far and wide, as well as dogs, rabbits, show ponies and Clydesdale horses.

Spectators were in awe of Jez Avery's Motorcycle and Mountain Bike Stunt Show and the organisers would like to thank Pheonix Honda for being brave enough to supply a Honda Civic for him to jump over!

Cyril the Squirrel Terrier team also amused and delighted everyone with their unpredictable antics as they raced around the main ring, chasing that illusive hare.

Helen McAllister, one of the organisers, said: "We couldn't have asked for better weather and that really made a big difference.

"For the past two years it has been a washout so I don't know if everyone prayed for sunshine this year.

"We took £27,000 on the day just from entrance fees. The number of people coming through the gate was phenomenal, so we expect to raise even more after we count it up.

"The show jumping went on for 12 hours, from 8am to 8pm. I don't recall any other event I've been to when that has happened.

"We would like to thank the anonymous sponsor for the kind donation which paid for the main ring and other entertainment on the day."
