HELP for survivors of the Haiti earthquake disaster has been pouring into local Oxfam stores — with one generous shopper donating £100.
Oxfam launched its appeal last Wednesday — the day after the disaster — and on Thursday a woman walked into the Milngavie branch to hand over the money.

Manager Christine Scott said: "As soon as we heard of the disaster we put up posters in the window and the response has been very good.

"We believe the lady who donated the £100 works in the village because one of the girls behind the counter recognised her."

Nationally Oxfam hope to raise millions for the appeal, which is now being co-ordinated by the Disaster Emergency Comittee (DEC).

Christine added: "Oxfam's immediate concern is to get clean drinking water to the victims of the earthquake as quickly as possible."

To donate to the DEC appeal call 0300 200 1999, visit www.oxfam.org.uk or call into the Oxfam shops in Milngavie and Bearsden.
