The haul included ecstasy, amphetamines, diazepam among other banned substances.

Milngavie police boss, Inspector Bill Ross, stressed drug dealing will not be tolerated in the district and vowed his officers will weed out dealers.

The crackdown follows the discovery of £200,000 worth of drugs in Bearsden and a further £100,000 in Milngavie.

Police officers stopped and searched a vehicle on Mosshead Road, Bearsden, at around 7.30pm on Tuesday, April 15, and found 20 bags of white substance, believed to be amphetamine sulphate, with an estimated street value of £200,000.

Two males, aged 36 years and 29 years, were arrested after the recovery.

Following intelligence later gathered, a subsequent search of a property in Graham Drive, Milngavie, was carried out in the early hours of Wednesday morning and a further haul, believed to include ecstasy, amphetamines, diazepam tablets as well as other unidentified substances were recovered, with an estimated street value of £100,000.

In this instance a 38-year-old woman was arrested and reports have been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

The seizure of the drugs came in a week when studies, supported by the World Health Organisation, revealed one in 10 Scottish 15-year-olds take drugs on a regular basis.

Inspector Ross said last weekend his officers again gave advice to a group of young people in Bearsden aged between 15 and 18 whom he said had "clearly been using" and explained: "We want to educate young people about the dangers of drug taking — it's more common than people think.

"We're talking decent kids from good homes who have the money to buy substances like cannabis and I would urge parents to be vigilant of the tell-tale signs of users, like broken cigarettes where the tobacco has been mixed with the drugs and possession of roll up papers."

As for the dealers, the Inspector warned: "This substantial recovery of the drugs seized last week will hopefully send out the message that the Bearsden and Milngavie area is not a soft touch for organised crime.

"There are a number of vigilant residents in the area who alert police to any suspicious activity, determined to keep this a decent place to live.

"Anyone considering dealing drugs in this area — take note — you are being watched."
